Introducing FoodTRVLR

I started this page as a way to share my experiences with both food and travel. In this blog I plan to share travel tips and experiences, street food, restaurants, recipes and my cooking experiences.
I enjoy trying new recipes, then modifying the recipe to make it more uniquely mine, including replicating foods I have tried in restaurants. I find it fun making different dishes, especially processed foods healthier by removing various chemicals, etc. Some of my favourite cooking experiments include canning cherries when a coworker sold me a case from her parents orchard very cheaply, making kombucha from a purchased bottle, making sourdough starter from scratch, dehydrating home cooked meals for a hiking trip, etc.
I am writing this blog from Bangkok, Thailand. We visited Bangkok for the first time wile on a vacation to South East Asia in January & February 2019. In October 2020, during Covid, after several years of my husband trying to convince me to quit my job in recreation so we could go travelling, I decided that it was time to leave Canada and go somewhere warmer. We discussed and decided that we would really like to live in Bangkok.
Because this was right in the midst of Covid lockdowns, I started searching for jobs (primarily on LinkedIn) to try to see if companies and the Thai government were allowing people to move to Thailand. Our plan was to teach English as a second language (ESL). Only a few days into this search, I happened upon a job for an Aquatics Manager at an out of school learning centre in Bangkok. When I told my husband about spotting this job, his response was “and you applied for it?” I applied right away, and very quickly had 2 or 3 interviews and was offered the job by the middle of November.
With a job offer in place, it was time to get all of the documents together to apply for my Non-O Visa. With the Visa in my passport, I was on my way to Thailand on December 30, 2020.
